12 new boutique hotels worth redeeming your points for

You know how the experience of browsing the carefully curated shelves of a local boutique is a much more pleasant experience than shopping in a massive big-box store? Hotel stays are often the same way. Some of my favorite stays have been in boutique hotels with an intimate atmosphere and a distinct, personality-infused style.

Historically, the trade-off for staying at a boutique property was giving up the ability to earn or redeem points from one of the major hotel loyalty programs. Luckily, those days are long gone, as dozens of independent brands and properties join big brands like Hilton, Hyatt and Marriott every year.

I've rounded up 12 of the newest hotels across the U.S. to join up with a major hotel brand this year, so you can maximize loyalty benefits without sacrificing the character and charm that comes along with a boutique hotel stay.
